After taking some photos to emulate the famous landscape photographer, Ansel Adams, I believe that this photo of a rose is my best photo. When I saw the photo that Adams took of a rose, I immediately though of this photo I took of my own white rose bouquet. I believe that in emulating Adams' photos, this was by far the closest simulation to his.
What was the most challenging aspect of this assignment?
Personally, the most challenging aspect was finding photos taken by Ansel Adams that were similar to ones I have taken this semester. Being that I was sick for the end of the semester, I was not able to get outside and take new photos, so I had to use ones that I had already captured.
What will you do in the future to create stronger images?
In the future, I will aim to include more intricate details in my photos, as well as capturing the mood along with its scenery as well. I enjoyed playing with black and white photography and still feel that the mood can be visible even without color, so I definitely would like to mess around with how lighting can affect the mood within black and white photos.
Course Goals & Achievements
I was able to learn about many different styles and methods of photography, including the 6 categories of photography, multimodality, composition, lighting, color/black and white, all while putting my own personal twist on each captured photograph. I personally believe that I did achieve my goals and I had fun doing so as well. I was able to take photos on three different cameras, each holding it's own beauty.
Student Image & Blog Comment - Emma Wheat

Hello Emma! I really liked the emotions put into this photo. I feel that you effectively highlighted the emotions that come with female athleticism, and I think that the use of black and white goes very well with this photo as well. I think that adding a different perspective such as a low perspective could have created an even stronger image. In the image you were emulating, they use a low perspective to create a sense of feeling strong in my opinion. I think that by adding this slight change of perspective, the emotions felt in this image could have been even stronger. Overall, really well done!
Wow, you did an excellent job at this assignment. The emulation is obvious, but the images remain so unique. The tone of the images matches perfectly. This is amazing and really raised the standard that I had set for myself.
Mia Baird - Hello Nicola,
I really love the way that you've captured the fundamentals of your reference image by Ansel Adams. The low saturation rose is the main focus of both photographs, with the white roses both contrasting prominently against the dark backrgounds, drawing my eye to the high focus subjects. It makes me pensive and curious of why the rose is there. I think you perfectly captured the photography techniques of the photographer you chose to emulate for this assignment.
Your image of the flower is really clear and interesting. I like the amount of depth that the image gives, even though the picture was taken up very close. I also like the stark contrast of the flower's white against the dark black background. Overall the image has a melancholy feel with the black and white composition.
